“Students imbibe theoretical knowledge in a practical method”

Education has taken a turn over in many ways, where students have been the target audience to teach the latest ways of teaching. Nevertheless, there has been still an approach to the blackboard, on which a teacher explains about concepts to students. The present interview of Principal of Meridian School, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, Nishi Rana, focuses on the different ways education is imparted to the students at Meridian School. Speaking about education, her dedication to shaping young minds and fostering excellence in education has truly set her apart.

 

 

Q) Should it be a classroom-blackboard approach or an experimental practical approach?

A) A chalk and duster approach is not the only method used at Meridian, but the use of digital tools to enhance learning is the new normal. The digital Board enhances learning in every classroom. The children of the 21st century are an audio-visual generation the “next-gen” and schools now favour a discussion method for instructional strategy. Interactive and participatory methods help to encourage critical thinkers.

 

Q) What is the teaching methodology at Meridian School?

A) At Meridian School, we believe in experiential learning where students engage in real-life learning and hands-on experience. Students imbibe theoretical knowledge in a practical method. It fosters critical-thinking and problem solving skills and creativity. We encourage our students to think globally.

 

Q) The lesson plan is an important part of a teacher’s life. What does it take to integrate a practical approach?

A) The lesson plan is an important part of a teacher’s life because it provides the focus, aim and path of a lesson. It helps the teachers keep to the goal of providing the right learning experience. The teacher achieves the ultimate goal of achieving the learning outcome of the lesson without digression.

 

Q) What are your views on the Open Book System?

A) Unlike traditional exams where mostly memorizing skills are tested. The Open Book Test encourages analysis, review and inferential learning through the use of Text books, class notes and online tools to answer the exam question paper.

 

Q) What are the changes you witnessed in the education sector from a teaching point of view in the past 10 years?

A) In the past 10 years education has changed dramatically. The inclusion of digital tools to aid learning has helped the learners to research analyse and infer information and assimilate. What we refer to as 21st Century skills evolved during this time.  The teacher is seen as a collaborator with the learner in the learning process. Educational processes learning and all attendant tasks like reports, project work and administration work have all been successfully digitalised. Libraries of books are available online learning, accessible to the learner at the click of a mouse.
