Scaler School of Technology: Redefining Tech Education in India

In 2024, Scaler School of Technology (SST) witnessed an extraordinary surge in applications, with over 12,000 students vying for a spot in its flagship undergraduate residential program in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. This marks a significant jump from the previous year, when the school received only 5,000 applications. Out of the 440 students admitted, 137 chose SST over prestigious institutions like IITs, NITs, IIITs, and BITS, further solidifying SST's reputation as one of the leading destinations for technology education in India.

Why Do Students Prefer New-Age Institutes Like SST?

The increasing popularity of institutes like SST is largely attributed to their industry-aligned curriculum, expert faculty, and hands-on learning opportunities. Shreshtha Sharma, the Student President of the 2027 batch, shared her thoughts on why SST stood out to her: “Scaler made sense to me for three reasons: the practical, hands-on curriculum designed by tech experts, the experienced faculty from global companies like Google and Microsoft, and the mandatory one-year internship I’ve already started. Many of my peers have secured internships even before the placement cycle began.”

SST’s approach to education is rooted in a project-driven pedagogy, which bridges the gap between traditional academics and the skills required by the tech industry. The faculty at SST comprises professionals from leading companies such as Google, Amazon, and Flipkart, ensuring students are equipped with industry-relevant skills and practical knowledge.

Addressing the Skills Gap

According to Abhimanyu Saxena, Co-founder of InterviewBit and Scaler, "Nearly 90% of India’s engineering graduates are considered unemployable due to outdated curricula. At SST, we’ve designed our pedagogy to align with the dynamic demands of the tech industry. The overwhelming rise in applications and the preference for SST over premier institutions validates our approach to tackling the skills gap."

Admission Process

Securing a spot at SST is highly competitive, with an acceptance rate of just 3.8%. Applicants must first clear the Scaler National Entrance Test (NSET), followed by two rounds of interviews conducted by industry professionals. In 2024, only 440 students were admitted from a pool of 12,000 applicants, many of whom boasted impressive credentials such as JEE Main scores in the 99.44 percentile and offers from global institutions like the University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo. SST also prides itself on its diverse student body, with participants hailing from 160 districts across 21 Indian states.

Scholarships and Financing Options

Applications for the 2025 batch are now open, and early applicants are eligible for scholarships funded by industry leaders such as Vijay Shekhar Sharma. The program offers several unique features:

  • Specializations in emerging technologies.
  • A year-long paid internship.
  • Dual degrees: a BSc from BITS Pilani and a Master’s from Woolf University.

To ensure that world-class education remains accessible to all, SST has also partnered with leading banks and NBFCs to offer financing options for deserving students.

With its innovative approach to education, SST is poised to continue reshaping the future of tech education in India, creating new pathways for students to excel in the rapidly evolving world of technology.
