131-Room School Inaugurated in Delhi to Accommodate 7,000 Students

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi recently inaugurated a new 131-room school in Sunder Nagri, northeast Delhi, designed to accommodate 7,000 students in two shifts, according to officials.

"I am thrilled to inaugurate this school today. When our government took office in 2015, we visited schools in this area and found classrooms overcrowded, with 100-150 students per class and many children sitting on the floor. Even the best teachers faced challenges in providing quality education under such conditions," Atishi said during the event, as quoted in a statement by the Aam Aadmi Party.

The new Sarvodaya school boasts 131 classrooms, seven laboratories, a library, two multi-purpose halls, and a conference room. It will offer all three academic streams—arts, commerce, and science. The school is set to serve students from Sunder Nagri, Nand Nagri, Mandoli, and Harsh Vihar.

Atishi also highlighted that the plot for the school was reclaimed from land mafias through efforts by the Delhi government. The foundation stone for the project was laid by then-Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in January 2023, and the five-storey school now stands as a symbol of the government's commitment to improving education.

The land, originally allocated to the education department by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in 2003, had fallen into the hands of land mafias due to a lack of interest from previous governments. "After the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Arvind Kejriwal came to power, we fought to reclaim this land and began constructing the school," Atishi said.

The inauguration of the school marks a significant milestone in the Delhi government's efforts to address overcrowding in schools and ensure better access to quality education for children in underserved areas.
