NCERT Partners with Amazon to Enhance Textbook Availability Nationwide

The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has formed a pioneering partnership with Amazon Seller Services Pvt. Ltd. to improve access to original NCERT textbooks at their printed prices. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that these textbooks will be available in nearly 20,000 pin codes across the country. He further stated that NCERT plans to significantly increase its publication output, with a target of producing 15 crore books during the 2025-26 academic year.

Mr. Pradhan emphasized the need for developing interactive, AI-driven e-books, including features like talking books, to make learning more engaging for the country's 300 million students.

School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar highlighted the importance of strengthening the textbook supply chain, which constitutes about 96% of total book sales in India. Making textbooks available on e-commerce platforms like Amazon is expected to enhance accessibility for students, especially those in remote areas.

Through Amazon’s extensive delivery network, students and schools will have the opportunity to purchase textbooks at prescribed prices, addressing challenges related to supply gaps, delayed availability, and regional shortages. This initiative aims to ensure equitable access to education nationwide.

Only genuine NCERT textbooks will be sold on this platform, effectively combating the issue of pirated copies. Amazon will assist NCERT in monitoring and removing unauthorized sellers who distribute counterfeit or overpriced books.

Additionally, the partnership will enable NCERT to utilize customer reviews and feedback to improve the quality of its textbooks and educational materials. Anonymized sales and usage data will also be shared with NCERT, aiding in informed decision-making for future print orders, distribution strategies, and the selection of new distributors in areas with high demand for NCERT textbooks.
