Following MP and Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan to Introduce MBBS Courses in Hindi

The Rajasthan government has announced that medical education in state colleges will now be offered in Hindi, in addition to English. This decision, made on Hindi Diwas (September 14), marks a significant shift in the state's approach to medical education. Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have also introduced MBBS programs in Hindi.

In Rajasthan, the transition will be phased. Starting from the 2024-2025 academic session, two medical colleges—Sampurnanand Medical College in Jodhpur and Medical College in Barmer, both affiliated with Marwar Medical University—will offer the MBBS course in Hindi. Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department, Gayatri Rathore, clarified that pursuing an MBBS degree in Hindi will be optional for students. This initiative was also highlighted in the state’s budget.

Similarly, Chhattisgarh has announced that MBBS courses will be taught in Hindi from the ongoing academic session. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that this move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to promote medical education in Hindi, a vision articulated during a rally in Uttar Pradesh in 2022.

On Hindi Diwas, Sai informed local reporters that the MBBS course will be available in Hindi, with Hindi textbooks and study materials introduced for the first year starting in the 2024-25 session. The health department has been instructed to arrange these resources accordingly.
