The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), in collaboration with the EduSkills Foundation, Ansys, Midas IT, and the Wadhwani Foundation, has announced a groundbreaking initiative to offer 200,000 virtual internships for engineering students. This initiative is designed to enhance employability by providing students with valuable industry experience, thereby improving their job prospects upon graduation.

During the launch event, AICTE Chairman Prof. T.G. Sitharam expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “Internships and employability are intrinsically linked. As India produces a large number of engineers across various disciplines, AICTE is dedicated to preparing students for the future. This initiative brings us closer to our goal of facilitating one crore internships by 2025. It will also ensure that students secure employment in their respective fields while offering industry a ready-to-work talent pool tailored to their needs.”

Prof. Sitharam also highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, noting that “We are not only empowering students with essential skills but also opening doors to a wide range of national and global employment opportunities. This collaboration promotes meaningful engagement with the job market, fostering a dynamic ecosystem that nurtures talent and drives economic growth.”

Dr. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of the National Educational Technology Forum (NETF), remarked, “This initiative marks a significant advancement in bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world experience, ensuring that Indian youth acquire the practical skills crucial for their professional growth. By leveraging our collective expertise and extensive reach, we aim to enhance employability for millions of students nationwide, preparing a workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of the industry.”

Dr. Buddha Chandrasekhar, Chief Coordinating Officer of AICTE, added, “The Council has been proactive in providing students with valuable internships and skilling opportunities. This initiative perfectly aligns with our mission to bridge the industry-academia divide and prepare Indian students for their careers by offering practical learning experiences.”
