Dharmendra Pradhan to continue as education minister in PM Modi 3.0 government

In the third term of the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dharmendra Pradhan retains his position as the head of the Ministry of Education.

Among the 72-member Union Council of Ministers in the Modi 3.0 government, there are 30 cabinet ministers and five ministers of state (independent charge). Recently, these ministers were administered the oath of office by President Droupadi Murmu.

Dharmendra Pradhan has been a consistent presence as a Union Minister in PM Modi’s previous terms, overseeing portfolios such as petroleum and natural gas, education, and skill development. During the Prime Minister’s initial term, Ramesh Pokhriyal served as the education minister from 2014 until the cabinet reshuffle on July 7, 2021.

The Ministry of Education is structured into two main departments – the Department of School Education and Literacy, and the Department of Higher Education.

The Department of School Education and Literacy is responsible for managing primary, secondary, and higher secondary education, along with adult education and literacy programs. On the other hand, the Department of Higher Education oversees university-level education, technical education, scholarships, and other related activities.
