In 2022, attending the Brown Solar Energy & Engineering Pre-college program and the Inspirit AI program at Brown University, Rhode Island, Arush's epiphany occurred while observing students haphazardly discarding trash in cafeteria bins. His subsequent research revealed the link between improper waste sorting and burgeoning landfills, sparking the idea for SAWT—a fusion of solar power and AI to automate waste sorting.

SAWT employs the YOLO-v8 vision AI model, trained on over 45,000 images, to discern recyclable from organic waste. Users simply deposit their trash into the bin without manual sorting, as the AI system identifies and sorts it accordingly.
