NCERT to introduce new syllabus for CBSE classes 3 and 6 from the new academic year

  • 06 Apr 2024

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced the forthcoming release of the revised syllabus for Grade 3 and Grade 6 for the academic session 2024-25.

This initiative aligns with the recommendations outlined in the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE), aiming to enhance the educational experience of students across India.

In correspondence with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), NCERT disclosed its plan to provide a syllabus bridge program for Grade 6 and comprehensive guidelines for Grade 3. These initiatives aim to ensure a smooth transition for students, introducing them to new pedagogical perspectives and subject areas such as Arts, Physical Education, Vocational Education, and ‘The World Around Us’ for Grade 3.

NCERT’s efforts also include the development of activity books and textbooks designed to complement the new syllabi, all meticulously aligned with the principles outlined in the NCF-SE 2023. These resources are tailored to engage students in interactive and experiential learning, fostering a deeper understanding of various subjects.

Furthermore, NCERT has advised CBSE to devise strategies that prioritize playful and activity-based learning for students at the onset of the academic year. This holistic approach aims to create an environment conducive to learning, encompassing not only academic subjects but also arts, physical education, and social sciences.

In alignment with these recommendations, NCERT encourages schools to revise their timetables to accommodate the updated syllabi for Grades 3 and 6. By integrating the new curriculum seamlessly into school schedules, educators can ensure a smooth transition for students and facilitate their adaptation to the revised educational framework.

NCERT emphasizes that this approach will not only ease the students’ transition to the new curriculum but also foster awareness among parents and the broader community about the updated educational perspectives. By involving all stakeholders in the implementation process, NCERT aims to create a collaborative and supportive educational ecosystem conducive to the holistic development of students across the nation.
